With three players sidelined due to illness the JV Boys Basketball Wheaton Knights put up a great fight against the Seneca Valley Screaming Eagles. The Knights trailed the majority of the game including a 10 point deficit at the half. The Knights made a run late to come up short and finish the game with their first loss of the season.
Sophomore Yabsira Getahun led the Knights in scoring with 13 points and made a huge effort in the rebounding category before being disqualified late in the game due to fouls. Getahun led the Knights in rebounding for a Wheaton team that was quite over matched in terms of height and length. Sophomore forward Thomas Takele recorded 12 points in his first starting opportunity of his Wheaton basketball career with 6 of his 12 points coming from the free throw line. Sophomore guard Abenezer Getachew led a second half surge with 5 points in the 3rd quarter while also causing Seneca Valley ball handlers trouble. He provided constant ball pressure and tipped passes.
The Knights JV team has two more home games this week. The next game will be on Wednesday December 12th against the Northwood Gladiators. This will be a JV doubleheader with the girls JV teams playing before the boys. The boys tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
