Fernando’s Monster Blast Sets the Pace
Wheaton Knights 11 Kennedy Cavaliers 1
In his first at bat, senior Anushka Fernando sent a monstrous blast over the left field fence at Kennedy, setting the pace for the Knight’s double header sweep of the Cavaliers. Fernando’s home run drove home senior Lee Roy Nchinda as well, and ignited a 4 run first inning that was just the start of a very busy day on the bases for the Knights. Junior third baseman Michael DePasquale had a pair of hits, scored twice and stole a pair of bases. Freshman catcher Kelvin Pedroza recorded a single and double, and two runs batted in while calling the game from behind the plate on a very warm spring afternoon.
In addition to his hitting heroics, Fernando pitched the complete five mercy-rule innings, striking out three, using only 74 pitches along the way to record his second win of the season. He set the Cavaliers down in order in three of the innings.
The Knights had a clean game in the field as well, committing no errors for the first time this season.
