Knights Go the Route Against State Champs
Northwest Jaguars 15 Wheaton Knights 6
The Knights completed 7 innings against the reigning State Champion Northwest Jaguars at Wheaton Regional Park, marking a notable upswing in the Wheaton program. In fact, the Knights were leading 6-4 at the end of the fourth inning, due in large part to the strong pitching arm of freshman Kelvin Pedroza and some timely hitting. The Knights took an early 2-1 lead at the end of the first, with seniors Lee Roy Nchinda and Anushka Fernando drawing walks and coming around on some Jaguar misplays and a screaming line drive sacrifice “fly” to left-center by Pedroza. Northwest took a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the 4th, but freshman Luc Bartusek singled, sophomore Fletcher Smith drew a walk and, with 2 out, junior Christian Torres lined a timely hit up the middle bringing Bartusek home. After Nchinda drew the second of his 3 walks on the day, Fernando tripled to the right field corner, clearing the bases and giving the Knights the aforementioned 6-4 lead. The rest of the game did not go as well, as Pedroza used up his allowed pitches and the Jaguars took advantage of some Knights misplays and strong hitting to swell the final score.
